GDS Strengthens Position in Guangzhou Market with Data Center Acquisition
- Facility fully committed by major Internet customer -
Shanghai, China, September 27, 2017 GDS Holdings Limited (GDS Holdings, GDS or the Company) (NASDAQ: GDS), a leading developer and operator of high-performance data centers in China, today announced that it has entered into an agreement to acquire an operational data center in Guangzhou (GZ2), further positioning the Company for growth in a key Tier 1 market. The GZ2 facility has an IT area of approximately 5,400 sqm, which is fully committed and utilized by a major Internet customer. GZ2 is located adjacent to the Companys Guangzhou 1 (GZ1) data center, which is also fully committed with another major Internet company as anchor customer. GZ2 came into service in mid-2015 and is already profitable. GDS will further upgrade the power capacity of the GZ2 facility in order to support the Internet customers growing Cloud business. The acquisition is expected to close later this year, subject to customary closing conditions.
We are excited to announce the acquisition of another high-performance data center that will strengthen our position in Guangzhou, stated Mr. William Huang, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of GDS Holdings. Strategically located adjacent to our current GZ1 facility, we expect to realize significant synergies between the two facilities as we expand our operations in this important market. Once we complete this new acquisition, we will have the honor of hosting two of Chinas largest Internet companies within this data center cluster, serving as a testament to our strong capabilities and a validation of our expansion efforts.
